″It is many times regarded as very spiritual to hear a long prayer from a man. But the humble and true saint knows that, when we are really in the Spirit before a holy God on our knees, that as a rule we have not many words to use, although the heart is full; and also that, when we pray in the flesh, we have so many words that we hardly know how to stop. It will be good for every one of us to be reminded of the words from our Lord Jesus Christ: "When ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do . . . be not ye therefore like unto them" (Matt. 6:7, 8). Prayer as well as worship must be in Spirit and in Truth. There must be a spiritual realization that we are before a thrice holy God; there must be a holy fear whereby we know that we cannot deceive God. We must be true, honest, and searching ourselves in the Truth; because we are liable to deceive ourselves and stand before God as liars. Prayer is a very solemn thing, beloved fellow-heirs″.

″È opinione generalmente diffusa che una lunga preghiera debba ritenersi "spirituale". Tuttavia il vero e umile credente sa che, in realtà, chi è prostrato in Ispirito davanti al Dio santo non deve proferire molte parole, anche se il cuore ne può essere colmo. E sa anche che, quando si prega per la carne, si dicono così tante parole che diventa difficile persino sapere come smettere. È buona norma che ciascuno di noi ricordi le parole del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo: "Nel pregare non usate troppe parole come fanno i pagani, i quali pensano di essere esauditi per il gran numero delle loro parole ... Non fate dunque come loro" (Mat. 6:7, 8). La preghiera, come l'adorazione, dev'essere fatta in Spirito e in Verità. Dev'esserci la consapevolezza che si è davanti al Dio tre volte santo; ci deve essere un sacro timore, in virtù del quale sappiamo di non poter beffare Dio. Dobbiamo essere veraci, onesti, investigando il nostro cuore in Verità, dal momento che siamo esposti all'autoinganno, apparendo agli occhi di Dio come dei mentitori. La preghiera è una cosa molto seria, cari coeredi della Grazia″.
