“Salvation by grace is appropriated by faith. Grace is the fountain, but faith is the channel. Grace is the life-line, but faith is the hand that clutches it. And, thoroughly and finally to exclude all boasting, it is declared that the salvation and the faith are both the gift Of God. 'And that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.' That salvation is God's gift is evident. 'The gift of God is eternal life through Christ.' The free gift, The gift of grace, The gift of righteousness -  these phrases determine the fact that salvation is itself a Divine present to man. 'Salvation,' cried C. H. Spurgeon in the great congregation, 'is everything for nothing! Christ free! - Pardon free! - Heaven free!' Thanks be to God for a gratuitous salvation!”

“Per fede ci si appropria della salvezza per grazia. La grazia è la sorgente, ma la fede è il canale. La grazia è la cima di salvataggio, ma la fede è la mano che l’afferra. E, alla fine, per escludere del tutto qualsiasi vanto, viene dichiarato che la salvezza e la fede sono entrambe un dono di Dio. «e ciò non viene da voi; è il dono di Dio». Ora, che la salvezza sia un dono di Dio è lampante. «il dono di Dio è la vita eterna  in Cristo Gesù». Dono gratuito, dono di grazia, dono di giustizia: queste espressioni stabiliscono il fatto che la salvezza è in sé stessa una divina elargizione fatta all’uomo. “La salvezza”, gridò C.H. Spurgeon nella congregazione, “è avere tutto dando in cambio nulla! Cristo gratuitamente! Il perdono gratuitamente! Il cielo gratuitamente!” Grazie siano rese a Dio per la salvezza avuta in dono!”
